Here is the second segment I shot, produced and edited about the technology boom happening in Kenya. Did you know that more people use mobile money in Kenya than anywhere else in the world? Mobile money works similar to a debit card, but purchases are made with a cell phone instead of a plastic card. Watch the video here.
Take a look at the first segment from my latest travels in Kenya. Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, is experiencing a booming technology scene. The developing country has a 40% unemployment rate, so, many young Kenyans are becoming tech entrepreneurs. In addition to being home to multiple startups, Kenya is also building a multi-billion dollar city, just for tech companies. Watch the video here.
I just got back to Nairobi after shooting for a few days in the middle of Kenya. These are images that will appear in a news video that will (hopefully) be complete sometime soon. Enjoy!
Curious about whats happening in Berlin Germany these days?
Take a look at this video. I produced / shot / edited it in Berlin. Here is a photo I snapped during the editing process. (in my hotel room)
This video also marks the conclusion of the “Hidden” series at The Daily. Check out the next post for my thoughts on The Daily’s demise.
Yes, I am sad (like many others) because The Daily will stop publishing its tablet newspaper in a week from today. And while there are no shortage of ideas why The Daily died, I’d rather look at the bright side here.
Almost two years ago, when The Daily launched, nothing like it had ever been created before. Newscorp dreamt up and birthed a (very complex) new media product before anyone else. And that is a BIG deal.
It’s a lot more difficult to create something thats never been attempted, than sit back and criticize what someone else made.
And because The Daily carved a new path for storytelling, I got to carve a new path for myself. Last July I went to the small African Island of Mauritius and took a walk with lions. Something I had never done before. I made a video about the experience. Take a look here.
The elements of the new media jungle may have squeezed the life out of The Daily but The Daily was first to squeeze so many new media ideas into a single app.
RIP Daily, I will miss you.
